Zigbee Modem

ZigBee is a specification based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs). ZigBee operates in the ISM radio bands, and it defines a general-purpose, inexpensive, self-organizing, mesh network for industrial control, embedded sensing, medical data collection, smoke and intruder warning, building automation and home automation, etc. There are three different types of ZigBee devices in a ZigBee network
 

Coordinator (Master): Only one coordinator exists in each ZigBee network. Its function is to store information about the network and to determine the optimum transmission path between any two points of the network.

Full function device (Router, Repeater): Routers act as an intermediate repeater that passes data from other devices.

Reduced Function Device (End Device): This device contains a minimal amount of functionality to enable it to talk to its parent node (either the coordinator or a router); it cannot relay data directly from other devices.

The ZB-2017-T/ZB-2017-PA is a wireless 16-bit, 8-channel differential analog input ZigBee module that provides a programmable input range on all analog channels (+/-150 mV, +/-500 mV, +/-1 V, +/-5 V or +/-10 V) . Each analog channel can be configured for an individual input range and has a high 240 Vrms overvoltage protection. Users can easily configure to configure the module address, protocol, checksum, ZB-PID, ZB-channel and type code settings using a combination of rotary and DIP switches. 

The ZB-2024-T/ZB-2024-PA is a 12-bit, 4-channel analog output wireless ZigBee module that provides a programmable output range on all channels, including 0 ~ +10 VDC, -10 VDC ~ +10 VDC, 0 ~ +5 VDC, -5 VDC ~ +5 VDC, 0 ~ +20 mA or +4 mA ~ +20 mA. There are also options for configuring the power-on value and the safe value. The module address, protocol, checksum, ZB-PID, ZB-channel and type code settings can be easily configured settings using a combination of rotary and DIP switches.

The ZB-2026-T/ZB-2026-PA is a wireless ZigBee module that offers 4 differential analog input channels, 2 analog output channels, 2 digital input channels and 2 digital output channels and provides a programmable analog input and output range. Each analog input channel can be configured to an individual range and each has 240 Vrms overvoltage protection. There are also options for a power-on value and a safe value. Users can easily configure the module address, protocol, checksum, ZB-PID, ZB-channel and type code settings using a combination of rotary and DIP switches.

The ZB-2018-T/ZB-2018-PA is a wireless 16-bit, 8-channel differential analog input module with an extremely high quality protection mechanism where overvoltage protection is up to 240 Vrms. Input type includes current, voltage as well as thermocouple, and is more suitable for harsh environments. Moreover, a newly-added feature that enables open thermocouple detection makes the ZB-2018-T/ZB-2018-PA more attractive than ever. The ZB-2018-T/ZB-2018-PA is also qualified for 4 kV ESD protection and 3000 VDC intra-module isolation. The ZT-2510 series module is small-sized wireless ZigBee repeater based on the IEEE802.15.4 standard. It supports network routing and signal relay transmission function in a personal area ZigBee network. The typical transmission of ICP DAS ZT series ZigBee products is 700 meters (LOS, line of sight), with a transmission frequency range of between 2.405 GHz and 2.48 GHz, separated into 5 MHz sectors, providing 16 channels and 16384 PAN IDs. ZT-2000 series is a long distance wireless repeater and you are able to use it to extend the transmission range and improve the quality of wireless signal.
ZT-2000 series products are specification for a suite of high level communication protocols using small, low-power digital radios module, which are fitted the ZigBee 2007 (ZigBee Pro) of ZigBee Alliance. In the ZigBee network, it is only allowed one ZigBee Host and called “ZigBee Coordinator”, ZT-2550/ZT-2570 series products, are used to initialize and manager the routing. In addition, One ZigBee network are able to manager 255 ZigBee router and responsible for receiving or bypassing data from parent or child node. In ICP DAS products, the ZT-2551, ZT-2571, ZT-2000 I/O and ZT-2510 are the ZigBee routers.

The ZB-2550 and ZB-2551 series are small-sized wireless ZigBee converters based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The converters allow the deivces which have RS-485/RS-232 interfaces, to transfer and transmit the data to a ZigBee wireless network.

Only one ZB-2550-T series (host) is allowed in a ZigBee network and used to initialize and manage the data transmission routes. The ZB- 2551-T series (slave) ZigBee router is responsible for transmitting/receiving data from its child/parent router or the host. ICP DAS ZigBee products are designed for low data rates. The main benefit of ICP DAS ZigBee products is that they can be used to define a generalpurpose, self-organizing mesh network, which can be highly advantageous for industrial control.

The typical transmission range of the ICP DAS ZigBee ZB-2550-T/ZB-2551-T converter is 100m, and 700m for the ZB-2550-PA/ZB-2551-PA.

ZigBee Network
The ZB-2570/2570P is a host ZigBee converter, and the ZB-2571/2571P is a slave ZigBee converter. Each feature an Ethernet/RS-485/RS-232 interface. Devices that have an Ethernet/RS-485/RS-232 interface are also able to be connected using the ZB-2570/2570P/2571/2571P. By distributing host and slave ZigBee converters in the field, users can easily build a wireless network that can be used for both monitoring and control.

User-friendly interface
A Windows compatible GUI configuration utility is available. Only four steps are required to set the ZB-2570/2571/2570P/2571P and then it is ready for use. The utility allows users to set different operating modes based on the type of application, and several of the required ZigBee variables such as PAN ID, etc.

The ZB-2510 series are ZigBee-based repeater modules included in the ICP DAS product line. The main difference between these products is the transmission range. The ZB-2510 and ZB-2510-T support an extended transmission range of up to 100 meters, whereas the ZB-2510P and ZB-2510-PA can transmit to a maximum of 700 meters. All modules are able to operate in broadcast and user-defined route modes. When the repeater is set to broadcast mode, the transmission route is constructed by the ZigBee Host. The repeater will forward any data that it receives using broadcast mode. The advantage of this mode is that the repeater can be deployed in a “haphazard” manner without any concern about positioning. However, the main fl aw of this mode is that if there are too many broadcast data packets in a ZigBee network, it will cause the network to crash. In contrast, when the repeater is set to user-defined route mode, it will only forward data using the user configured route. The benefit of this mode is that the data loading of the ZigBee network will be reduced, but the user must plan the data transmission route for the entire ZigBee network before setting up the application. If a mistake is made on even one repeater point, the entire ZigBee network will be invalid.

The ZB-2500 is a ZigBee packet sniffer that is designed for signal detection and analysis for every ZigBee modules in ICPDAS. When install the ZigBee modules on-site, the ZB-2500 would be helpful to find the best location of signal and we can layout the best ZigBee network topology.

There is another purpose for using ZB-2500. When the ZigBee module go to failure or transmission efficiency is bad, we can use ZB-2500 to detect a specific ZigBee node signal to find out the failure reasons.

The ZB-2500 also works in an adjustable 16 RF Channels and USB interface supported. We can easily operate it via a Windows base utility. As long as we have ZB-2500, we can always propose a solution when first time installing ZigBee modules on-site got failure.
